There are a number of impacts such as electrostatic discharge and switching operations in the power grid by the energy supplier that regularly result in overvoltages. These may have negligible effects but may also be in the range of kilovolts. Especially higher voltages present a serious risk for increasingly sensitive electronics.
Overvoltages may result in the destruction of individual components or even complete circuits. Varistors being installed in parallel to the protected component provide effective protection against such overvoltages. Varistors are voltage dependent: Their resistance decreases as voltage increases.
When the threshold voltage is reached varistors change to low resistance, thus reliably preventing a further increase in voltage and ensuring protection of the component. To give you the protection you need for these overvoltages, ESKA has added metal oxide varistors (MOVs) to its range.
Our product range includes a large variety of radial leaded MOVs having different continuous and threshold voltages combined with lower up to high current pulse strengths depending on size. Submit your request to us or talk to us about the proper selection of a MOV for the protection of your appliance and find the appropriate metal oxide varistor in our product range.
